Comfort Love And Aimed Apology

"Ian?" I slowly opened the door, scanning the room to see where he was. I had planned on knocking, but feared he'd freak out from the sudden noise or think it was the others.

At least with the sound of my voice, he'd respond quicker, especially if he was in a darker state of mind.

"Meow!"

I looked down to see Milo running to my feet, practically jumping onto my leg in excitement. I grinned and knelt down to the floor, giving him a bit of attention as I stroked his head in greeting.

"Hello, Milo."

"Meow!" He began to purr before he stretched and rolled onto his back. I gave him a little scratch before he rolled back up and looked to the corner.

Following his gaze, I noticed Ian was sitting in the corner with his arms around his tucked-in knees.

Milo pressed his front paws on my knee, looking up at me with a spark of worry.

"Don't worry. I'll stay with Ian tonight. Why don't you keep your sister company? I'm sure she'd love to have her brother protecting her. Can you do that for me, Milo?"

"Meow, meow!" He replied with a nod of his head, and after nuzzling my knee and hand, he ran back to Ian. He rubbed his head against Ian’s ankles and then raced out of the room.

I peered out to see him run to the door of my bedroom, only to see Neo coming out from it. He was now wearing shorts and a white tank top, his hair up in a ponytail.

Glancing down to Milo, he mumbled, "Coming to stay with your sis?"

"Meow," Milo sat back and stared up at Neo, who sighed.

"I'm not carrying you to the bed."

"Meow."

"No."

"Meow?"

"Damn cute things," he grumbled and leaned over to scoop Milo up. He was clearly satisfied because his purring was so loud, I could hear it from here.

Neo walked back into the room and I listened as the door slowly inched its way shut until I heard nothing else. With a smile, I closed Ian's door and headed over to where he was sitting.

The lights were dim, reminding me of the dungeon where I'd found him. The spike of fear inside myself froze me in place. I had to close my eyes and take several deep breaths before I could relax.

"Harper?"Carter's tender voice ran through my mind.

“I'm okay. Sorry...I just thought of something that was scary.”

"You don't me or Izu?" he asked.

“No. I'll be all right. Just sorting my emotions and thoughts.”

"All right. We're here if you need us," Carter assured me. "I love you. Izu does as well."

Something softly laid upon my head, leaving me wondering if I'd summoned Muffin out of the blue. Opening my eyes slowly, I locked onto Ian's silver gaze as he stared at me with worry.

"Harper?" His voice trembled, and yet it was filled with concern that was aimed at me. I glanced around, noticing I was crouched down with one arm around my tucked knees. My other hand was in Ian's.
